I have a standard sized cast iron bathtup that needs to be refinshed. What does everyone think the best options are, and what is the approximate cost? Any advice would be appreciated -- I think removing the tub would be too difficult!

I suggest a standard spraypaint refinish (your color choice). About $150

Lowes sells a refinishing kit for bathtubs for about $34. It looks like it is a really simple procedure. I am going to tackle it in July.

i would suggest using a proffesional company who does nothing else. 10 yrs ago the cost was around $300 for tub. i have tried the of the shelf paints with bad results, you can get a free estimate, i just looked up "bathtub refinishing" in yellow pages, lots of them. g/l

I have seen trucks with "Bathfitter"and "Rebath"around my town. They have a method that allows the existing tub to stay put. Try checking these names out online.

You can buy the Lowe's bathtub refinish paint kit (white).  Follow the directions and give it a good sand.  Clean well before applying paint.  The paint really has a new tub look and the finish is very smooth.  If you are on a budget this would be the way to go.  Make sure and tape off your drain, faucet, overflow and etc.  You can then use a blade knife to gently remove the tape.
